About this listing

This listing only includes scenery files and basic texture updates. It does not include any adventures, fantasy, historic, static or dynamic scenery (e.g. planes on airports), maps, charts, navaids databases, clouds and utilities. The objective is to provide a guide for all the FS scenery and to be able to determine which files are needed for each region. Maybe it can also help to avoid double developments or compatibility conflicts.

Files are sorted by continents, nations and states (if appropriate). Each entry contains information about the scenery based on the included documentation, my own's or others' experience. All dates are expressed as day/month/year. Some files need or work better with other files, whilst they are incompatible with others. This has been indicated when known. Attention: Extensions of the files have been removed. Most files are .zip, some could be .exe, some Japanese files are .lzh, a few even are distributed as .bgl.

I don't say that if a scenery isn't found here it doesn't exist. If you know about a good combination or any missing scenery, tell me please. In fact I know about some more sceneries which I’m not able to identify yet.

Special thanks to Javier Gallego who started this database in 1996. Also special thanks to the people who keep the FS-file libraries running and to all the designers who keep filling them! And last but not least thanks to everyone for feedback, wishes, tips and corrections!

Note for scenery designers

I want to thank all the scenery designers for their work and to make it available to the rest of the FS comunity. I encourage them to work together to make the sceneries more compatible. I really hope none of the authors is uncomfortable of being or being not included in this list. If you detect an error, please inform me.

Please (this is a personal opinion) do not include any common textures (FS98, Airport, VOD, ASD, FSASM, etc.) in your distribution files of sceneries. Just indicate their requirement. It also would be nice if static aircrafts and dynamic scenery were included in separate files. I also prefer that there is not more than one picture included in the distribution files. All these recommendations are in order to save a lot a bandwidth. If you want to include a text file in a doc-format, I recommend to use Wordpad to make sure that people can read what you want to tell. Please avoid embedded pictures, because they increase the file size extremely. For special layouts I think best is HTML.

Note for scenery users

Because of some really disappointing aspects in the past months I want to point some things out:

• Each package or file listed here is copyright of the respective author. Please respect this!
• Please also read the documentation of each package to know exactly its contents, installation, special requirements, use, compatibility issues, updates, etc. to avoid possible problems. Many designers work hard on the documentation and even include additional info to help you and to increase your fun.
• This database includes information about 4,000 (!) scenery files which all are for free! Don’t expect they all are perfect, but please always respect that the designers share their work for fun - they don’t have to! So if you don’t like a scenery, just leave it! But if you do, think about a little “Thank you” to the author to support their work.
• If you detect some errors tell them of course - but in a friendly way please. The authors don’t charge you for their work but still you will often get even more support from them than from the big software companies we all know... Most designers will help you, correct their work or include your wishes in the next version if time permits.

Updates, distribution and disclaimers

New versions will be published on an unregular basis, but they are intended to be released at least every three months. Due to the decreasing number of new sceneries for FS98 and before this might be the final version which will be available as a complete download - at least for some time! You can obtain updates first at Joe’s FS Corner, where you can also use and search the list online. The online version may be updated more frequently.

The complete package must be distributed together as is. The packed file only may be uploaded to any FTP or WWW server that is free of charge (please inform me to know to what extent the file is widespread). It must not be distributed by any (electronic) mean where money is charged to the user. It is not allowed to provide this database on any other homepage for online use.
